Jayapura, Jubi/Antara – PT Freeport Indonesia planned to build a smelter at the Paomako Seaport area in Mimika Timur Sub-district, Mimika Regency, Papua Province, the Secretary of Papua Mineral Resources and Energy Office said on Tuesday (24/3/2015).
He said the location will cover approximately 142 hectares.
“Land compensation is still being negotiated because we still need to sit together officially and legally to ensure the smooth of smelter construction,” he said. However, he said, although the negotiation remained a sticking point, the Mimika Government is ready to solve this problem as soon as possible.
“The construction of smelter would take three to five years, so it must be started immediately,” he said. He added now the coordination between Mimika Government, Papua Provincial Government and Central Government has been worked. So it expects the smelter construction could be started. (*/rom)
