Jayapura, 23/4 (Jubi) – Papua Provincial Health Director Aloysius Giay said the provincial government will upgrade four public hospitals with new facilities.

“All four hospital that will be equipped with new facilities are Merauke Public Hospital, Wamena Public Hospital, Biak Public Hospital and Nabire Public Hospital,” Giay told reporters in Waena, Jayapura city.

In addition, the Health Department also will designate six other hospitals in the regencies and Jayapura as regional hospitals.

Merauke Public Hospital will cover the southern region, Wamena Public Hospital for the eastern mountains, Nabire Public Hospital for western part of central highlands, Abepura Public Hospital for Paradise Bay and Timika Hospital for Yowari.
“Our focus for the next three years are six hospitals. These will be designated as type B hospital as we want all Papuans healthy,” the former director of the Abepura hospital said again.

Jayapura Public Hospital in Dok II will be the first referral hospital.
“So if the hospitals in the area are not able to handle the patients, they will be referred to Jayapura Hospital,” he said.
