Jayapura , 28/5 ( Jubi ) – Four prisoners fled from an Abepura prison last Saturday ( 24/5 ) by climbing the wall.
The head of the Abepura Penitentiary, Endang Lintang Hardiman, said that the escapees were David Haluk, Decky Asso, Konstant Ven , and Ockto Tabuni. The four were detainees of prosecutors and were involved in cases such as fighting, violence and rape.
“They escaped from the prison by climbing the wall on Saturday last week, when there was a worship visit by the Adventist Church,” Endang said by phone on Wednesday (28/5).
The escape began on Saturday morning around 07.30 when all the prisoners opened the doors for worship activities.
“The four prisoners used a piece of old wood from the building to climb the wall,” he said.
At that time, there only three of the five prison officers were on guard while the other two officers were on sick leave.
“The guard noticed immediately and tried to chase them but they were not found. So, the guards chose to go back and guard the situation in the prison,“ he explained.
The search was continuing for the escapees. The escape of four prisoners is the first time in this year.
There are 360 prisoners in the Abepura prison and the facility is overcrowded. (Jubi / Indrayadi TH/ Tina)
