A victim found after floods and landslides hit Jayapura City (Jubi)
Jayapura, 25/2 (Jubi) – Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tommy Mano confirmed that eight people were killed and another is still missing after floods and landslides hit the city on Saturday (22/2).
He said national media reports about 11 people killed were incorrect. He urged all parties to provide accurate information to the public.
The Head of Regional Disaster Management Board of Jayapura City, Bernard J. Lamia confirmed the mayor’s statement, but said his office does not have complete information on the identities of the victims.
“Yes, it is true, but we are still updating the names of the victims who have died,” he said by phone to tabloidjubi.com on Wednesday (25/2).
He also said his office will take stock of total losses after the construction of a disaster management station by city’s government. The agency plans to collect data from negihborhoods through sub-urban chiefs.
“We are trying to coordinate all issues. I will answer all of these after we finish building a main disaster station,” he said. (Jubi/Sindung/rom)
