Fish Bomb – Suplied
Sorong, Jubi – The practice of bombing fish in the waters of Raja Ampat, West Papua is still rife and is allegedly condoned by authorities.
The remarks were made by the head of North Misol district, Raja Ampat, Jermias Elwod in the event of Mayan deliberation last week.
“I want to let you know that we often hear the thump of bombs from the sea, but we do nothing because we fear our lives will be threatened if we forbid them.” he said.
This has been reported to the Raja Ampat regency government through the relevant agencies including the police in Waisai, but there has been no response.
Strangely after reporting it, he was visited by some people from Sorong.”I’ve been approached by several people, in which there are unscrupulous law enforcement officers that told me not to report bombings of fish to local governments and authorities.
