Expansion of Papua Province About to Discuss This Year

Jakarta, Jubi – Legislators and the Ministry of Home Affairs will hold a discussion on plans for 80 new autonomous regions (DOB) including a new province in Papua on March 23, a legislator said.
Most of the DOBs are for new regencies in central and eastern Indonesia.

“We will discuss it after the recess. After Kalimantan Utara, which has become a province, there is one in the submissions to the province of Papua. However, its complete draft has not been received yet, ” Deputy chairman of commission II, Ahmad Riza last week.

DOB would be discussed again by the parliament and the Ministry of Home Affairs after revoking moratorium division this year. The legislators proposed about 25 DOB and the rest would come from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“We will discuss together to find a match between the expansion and the needs of the community with a view of fiscal improvement in the areas concerned,” he stated.
This year, all proposals would be discussed in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). (*)
