Merauke, Jubi – The head of the education department of Merauke, Felix Liem Gebze, said an elementary school in Wogikel village, Ilwayab district, can not be used because of a land disputes.

Gebze said the school had been built in the area because the owners handed over the land for free to the government, but once the building has been completed, there were people who come and claimed the land as their own and asked for compensation.
“Actually, we are planning to re-discuss with the owners of customary rights, so that the building can be used again,” Gebze told Jubi  on Saturday (02/07/2015).

If the building can not be used, then the school budget that has been spent to build the school would be useless. Hopefully, in the near future there is an agreement so that the school can be used,” he said.

Moreover, he added, the number of students from year to year increased. Surely the government has a duty and responsibility to ensure that all students can have an access of education.

Because of the dispute , the government decided to borrow a building owned by PT Dwi to house 500 students. (Frans L Kobun/ Tina)
