Jayapura, Jubi – Eight people were buried by a landslide at Apasi Village of Eliem Sub-district, Yalimo Regency, Papua on Sunday night (23/8/2105).
A witness told Jubi that heavy rain triggered the landslide and buried a camp belonging to PT. Papua Akbar Bersama (PNB).
“Eight people were said to be buried under the debris and earth, including three employees of PT. PNB. They are Yosep Nusi, Versus Kepno and Yopi Kepno,” the witness said via a short message to Jubi on Monday afternoon (24/8/2015).
Papua Police Spokesperson Senior Police Commissionaire Patrige Renwarin confirmed Jubi about the information. He said the Joint Rescue Team have not yet reached the location because the road to Kali Leg was blocked by landslide materials.
“In addition, the weather was also affecting the searching. The rescue team then decided to turn back to Elelim, the capital of Yalimo Regency. Landslide was occurred due to heavy rain since Sunday night (23/8/2015). It was raining at around 18:00 until 24:00 Papua time. One heavy equipment of PT. PNB also buried under the landslide,” Renwarin said.
According to him, eight persons who were reportedly missing are not yet founded. Despite three PT. PNB employees, two other victims are two truck drivers, a heavy equipment operator, and two local people. (Arjuna Pademme)
