Sorong, 16/6 (Jubi) – As many as eight prisoners escaped from a police detention center in Sorong, West Papua.
Officers found out about the escape early Monday when they heard shouts from a prisoner.
The eight prisoners escaped after unlocking the door using a key belonging to a prison guard that was missing a few days ago and fled through the back yard.
Sorong police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Harry Golden Hart said he suspected that the prisoners had stolen keys from a guard.
“Yes, I received the report in the morning. Now, we are studying the case, ” he explained.
He said police had been deployed to pursue the escaped prisoners.
As a result, the police have tightened security by adding more guards and installing security cameras.
