Merauke, Jubi- Traditional leaders, community leaders and other sections of the community agreed to implement customary sanctions for drunk people in Wasur village, Merauke, village head Thobias Wamal Gebze said on Monday (22/6/2015).
“Based on the agreement, if there is a drunk after sipping gin alcohol, the person will be penalized by providing wati plants, coconut, banana and several other attributes,” he said.
He said basically alcohol type of gin is brought from the town. Lately the drunk has decreased drastically. If anyone makes a violation again, punishment will be harsher.
The head of Public Relations Merauke police, Inspector Richard Nainggolan, welcomed the initiative in Wasur village. “This is a great way to restrict people to consume alcohol,” he said. (Frans L Kobun/ Tina)
