Jayapura, 16/7 (Jubi) – Dozens of members of the Local Election Commissions in five regencies in Papua could face jail sentences and fines for alleged electoral violations durng the april 9 legislative elections.
Papua Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Sulistyo Pudjo said they included three members of the Bovendigoel Election Commission, five members and a secretary of the Tolikara Election Commission, five members of the Yahukimo Election Commission, four members of the Puncak Jaya Election Commission and five members of the Nduga Election Commission. One of the three commissioner of Bovendigoel Election Commission had died.
“They could be charged under article 312 of Law 8 of 2012 and section 309 of the Legislative Election Law. Meanwhile, the Article 309 of Law 2014 well be four years in prison and a fine of Rp. 36 million, ” he said on Wednesday (16/7).
“Commissioners from Yahukimo had been on the second phase. Currently, Yahukimo airport is blocked , so the commissioners can not be taken to Jayapura. Still they will fly tomorrow, ” he said.
There are two cases, the first involves two suspects and the second involves three suspects. The cases are now still in the process.
Chairman of Papua Commission, Adam Arisoi said it is still awaiting the verdict of the law. If convicted, the Commission would recommend them to Papua Honor Council Election (DKPP) to be fired.
“We hope this cases can be a lesson for the members of the Election Commission in the area,” he said. (Jubi / Arjuna / Tina)
