

Floods in Jayapura City (Jubi)
Jayapura, 23/2 (Jubi) – The death toll from floods and landslides that hit Jayapura City on Sunday (23/2) has risen to five, with four injured and three still missing.
Papua police spokeman Senior Commisioner Sulistyo Pudjo said that the five people who died in landslides in Bhayangkara and Trikora villages of Jayapura Utara district are Yewen Kristin (17), Elias Sohilait (28), a security guard at Bank Papua, Christina Umpenawany (38), Desy Nauw (24), and Melky Ngapa (25).
“Three missing persons are Nela Kobepa, Alexandro Kobepa, Ronaldo Kobepa, and the search is under way,” said Pudjo on Sunday 2/23).
The injured victims are Deky Bonay (22), Ferdiana Kobepa (22), Bastian Kobepa (17), Ferry Gobay (22). They we treated at the Hospital Dok II government hospital.
Earlier, the Head Division of Social Department of Province Papua, Suparman Pasundan, said two people died in the landslide at Dok V Yapis Atas.
“I was at the scene and saw two people dead. Many houses were buried by the landslide but I only can help one of them,” he said.
Floods and landslides in Jayapura have killed 10 people since 2013. In the beginning of 2013 three people died in a landslide in the area of APO, Bhayangkara Village, North Jayapura District and at the end of 2013, on Tuesday (31/12), two people died in a landslide in the Navy Hamadi Village, South Jayapura District, Jayapura.
Meanwhile, in early 2014, a total of five people died because of floods and landslide in Jayapura city. (Jubi/Indrayadi TH/rom)
