Merauke, Jubi – Police said Monday (12/1) the investigation into alleged corruption involving PT. Perum Damri (State Bus Company) in 2012 remained their priority this year.
The head of the Criminal Investigation department of the Merauke Police, Adjunct Police Commission Chandra said several witnesses had been questioned since 2014, but no suspects had been named.
The case came to public attention after it was revealed that PT. Perum Damri allegedly provided a false report for 2012 reporting the operation of Kuprik-Kurik route while the bridge was broken and out of order, and there’s no chance for vehicles to load and drop the passengers. But the report stated PT. Perum Damri run their operation to serve the passengers. The report was very clear and complete.
Furthermore, Chandra said the target in handling each corruption case is certainly increasing every year. Especially in 2015, he doesn’t know how many cases the police would handle because it’s still waiting for the specified budget. He said the Papua Police usually handover two cases to be investigated before submitted to the prosecutor office.
“Yes, we must also refer to the priority of the existing case, but it might be possible for more than two cases,” he said. When asked about the handling of corruption cases in 2014, he added it has been achieved, namely the cases of souvenir procurement and house construction at Kimaam.
Separately, the Merauke Police Spokesperson, the First Inspector Richard Nainggolan said besides the handling of criminal cases, the Merauke Police also processes the corruption cases.
