Sentani, Jubi – Sentani Sub-district Chief Alvons Awoitau said regional regulations should take into account tenure and community land boundaries of those who live on the customary land during.

“What need to be discussed in this socialization must be relied on the interest of local community, therefore it would not found any difficulty in the implementation later although it was still in proposed. It was unfortunate if the related stakeholder didn’t take part in this event,” he said at the Socialization of Cycloop Sanctuary Control held in Gedung Tabita Sentani, this week.

Awoitau said the participation of local community would fully help the government in the future, because many things would be decided today in this event would certainly influence to proposed regional regulation about protection on Cycloop Sanctuary because one day it would be set as regional regulation. “The small thing that has been proposed such as task force who would guard the buffer zone in the sanctuary is part of discussion. Thus as potential resources, the local community through their leaders must be accommodated therefore the implementation of regional regulation will meet the target,” he said.

Meanwhile, the local religious leader Piter Weya suggested the government to create the area boundaries as well as to empower the local community to monitor and protect the Cycloop Sanctuary from the irresponsible people. (Engelberth Wally/rom)
