Wamena, Jubi – A clash between Muliama and Ibele residents in Jayawijaya Regency on the New Year’s Eve finally ended after the Jayawijaya Police facilitated a reconciliation meeting at police headquarters on Monday (4/1/2016).
In the meeting, both parties agreed to sign a peace agreement to stop the conflict while waiting for the result of a customary resolution meeting.
Jayawijaya Police Chief Adjunct Senior Police Commissionaire Ronny Thabaa said both parties were supportive and had good intention to resolve the conflict.
“This settlement is a follow up of conflict resolution between Ibele and Muliama residents occurred on 1 January 2016, and certainly it would be further solved according to Wamena tradition,” he said.
The attacker who stabbed death Wellem Wetipo on 29 December 2015 in Jayapura is currently detained at Abepura Police Station.
“Tomorrow morning (Tuesday), I will send four officers of Jayawijaya Police to take and bring him to Wamena for further negotiation or follow up meeting,” he said.
Although the meeting has resulted a peace agreement signed by both parties, the Jayawijaya Police Chief was highly appreciated the people’s awareness who collectively want realizing a peace in Jayawijaya, in particular the residents of both sub-districts.
Moreover, he said, to ensure the case settlement, the police would still perform the preventive attempt and deploy its personnel to anticipate the third party who might do provocation.
“The case settlement through legal process according to this Country’s law would be still conducted, it would be applied for all. The perpetrators would be processed according to their current location in Jayapura and Wamena,” he said.
Muliama Sub-district Chief, Firdaus Wenda deplored this incident. “We are from Muliama Sub-district are ready to guarantee the security situation there, because we have done it since two days ago to anticipate another attack Through this incident, we have loss many things, because we need a lot of support. So it’s expected the people could hand over this to the police and could solve this problem immediately,” Wenda said. (Islami/rom)
