Jayapura, Jubi – Due to limited space for burial in Tanah Hitam, Jayapura, the public cemetery charges Rp. 15 million per burrow.
“This price is very burdensome. I hope the government of Jayapura City can review it, ” Yansenem, a Jayapura city resident said on Tuesday (7/10).
The head of the Parks and Cemetery Agency, Nofdi J Rampi, said cemetery plots have become very expensive since the location is already very crowded.
“Yes, I can’t deny it, but now the government has taken several steps to deal with it,” he told reporters on Tuesday (7/10).
One solution is to provide three hectares of land to build a new public cemetery which is not far from the old one.
“We surveyed the areas and identified 72 graves that must be removed to make way for road access,” he said.
He added that a parking lot and a waiting room would be also built at the new public cemetery. (Sindung Sukoco)
