Wamena, Jubi – The body of a victim hit by an arrow in the fighting between students on Monday (10/8/2015) has been taken to Wamena after being examined at Dok II Hospital in Jayapura.
The remains of Nelson Tabuni, a student at SMAN 1 Wamena, arrived at around 13:50 on Jayawijaya Police’s aircraft, and was received by his family at Wamena Airport on Tuesday (11/8/2015).
They took the body home in a military ambulance for funeral which was also attended by the local government officials.
Jayawijaya Regional Secretary, Yohanes Walilo said he hoped expected both the school and family would not seek revenge since the local government has conducted a meeting with school representatives and victim’s family.
“The government has talked with the victim’s parents and we will evacuate the body. We also called the school authorities to hold the revenge,” Walilo told reporters. He also said the incident was occurred due to misunderstanding between pupils of SMAN I but spreading to SMA Yapis. He further expected the clash wouldn’t be spread out.
“We temporarily suspend any school activities for next two days to avoid the further dispute and at least after the victim is buried,” he said.
He also admitted the local government has invited both principals of SMAN I and SMA Yapis in the morning and would further invite all principals in Wamena City in line with the security issue at school. He also admitted the local government would listen the victim’s family’s demand and provides compensation to the victim’s family. In addition, the local government also would take a prompt action to call the Head of Education Office and all school principals to make a joint agreement to protect the pupils at school.
Meanwhile, Jayawijaya Crime and Investigation Unit Chief I Wayan representing Jayapura Police Chief Semmy Ronny Thaba told reporter at his office the clash was occurred on Monday at 10:45 Papua time in Gedung Bazda quarter.
“When marching to the parade, two pupils of SMAN I with initial TSS and JS were mocked each other,” he said.
The eye gazing or taunted then further raised a tension to put them in duel. Because of being pressed, JS asked his friends from SMA Yapis for help that also made TSS called his friend from SMAN I. Finally the brawl was happened and involved other schools. Jayawijaya Police reported there are 13 victims who get light and severe injured and treatment at Wamena Hospital while one was killed in incident after being referred to Jayapura Hospital.
“For further legal process, we have called and questioned witnesses in particular nine pupils of both sides who alleged provoked the brawl,” he said.
And the police have commitment to continue the legal process according to the Law.
“What people need to know that each witness would be charged with the same reason that is both victim and witnesses could be named as suspect because they are part of the both groups. However, this incident has no connection with the woman issue as it is said,” he said. (Islami/rom)
