Yesaya Sombuk (Jubi)
Jayapura, 17/6 (Jubi) – Biak Numfor Regent Yesaya Sombuk was reportedly arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at a hotel in Jakarta on Monday evening (16/6).
KPK seized cash in the form of Singapore dollars during the raid. It is suspected that the case was linked to the Ministry for Rural Development (PDT).
Papua chief persecutor Maruli Hutagalung said he did not know what Sombuk was accused of.
“Yes, I heard that the KPK arrested him. I heard it last night, but do not know why he is arrested, ” he said on Tuesday (17/6).
However, he does not deny that in 2012, Papua persecutors’ office interrogated him as a witness in a case of alleged corruption in connection 10.3 billion rupiah for school rehabilitation in Supiori. At the time, he served as the head of Education and Teaching.
“He was questioned as a witness, when Papua persecutors checked him on corruption case in May 22. Yet, later it will develop since his position was as the head of Department of Education and Teaching,” he explained.
The two people named as suspects for this case are with initial TTA, a civil servant of Department of Education and Teaching and initial SI as a contractor. (Jubi / Arjuna/ Tina)
