BI Papua Conducts Four Economic Surveys

Jayapura, Jubi – The Papua branch of Bank of Indonesia has conducted a series of surveys during 2015 in several regencies in Papua.

Those surveys are Price Monitoring Survey, Consumers Survey, Business Development Survey and Liaison Survey.

Deputy of Bank of Indonesia in Papua, Eko Waluyo Purwoko, said the purpose of these surveys is to get complete, accurate, prompt and accessible data on current economic condition in term of supply and demand.
“In order to maintain the constancy of rupiah value and in accordance with Regulation No. 23/1999 that adjusted with Regulation No. 3/2004 about the task of Bank of Indonesia, survey is one of BI’s tool to get data and information,” said the Deputy of BI Region Papua in the release received by Jubi on Thursday (6/8/2015).

According to him, the Price Monitoring Survey aims obtaining initial information about price increase and its affecting factors as a feedback in formulating the monetary policy as well as to support Regional Economic Assessment. There are five enumerators and 99 permanent respondents in this survey.
“Location for the Price Monitoring Survey is Jayapura City in which four respondents are respectively four traders from Youteva and Hamadi traditional market and Saga Mall and Agro Segar supermarket,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Consumers Survey was conducted to obtain the initial information about the trend of consumer demand to design a policy to control inflation. The respondents of this survey are Jayapura City residents.
“Survey on business development involved eight enumerators and 65 entrepreneurs. The survey aims obtaining the initial information on business activities in real sector on a quarterly basis, namely the ongoing quarter period. Currently the survey was held in Jayapura Municipality and Merauke, Timika and Biak regencies. It is planning to conduct in Nabire and Wamena for the third quarter period of 2015,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to him, liaison is to collect information including data and statistic, which be held periodically using direct or indirect systematically interview towards business community and/or other relevant parties about the development and direction of business activity and documented in a report.

On an occasion, BI Senior Deputy Governor, Mirza Adistiyawara said although at the national level, Indonesian economic of first quarter period is predicted be still limited, while the export performance is remain depressed compared to global economic, the number of Papua economic growth is much better.
