Jayapura, Jubi – A lawayer for Areki Wanimbo, who was arrested along with two French journalists, said her clinet will stand trial soon after his file was submitted to the prosecutor.
“His file has been submitted to the Prosecutor. So we just wait,” Latifah Anum Siregar told Jubi in Padangbulan, Jayapura on Monday (24/11).
Siregar who also the Director of ALDP (Democracy Alliance for Papua) said if the prosecutor was satisfied, the police will hand over the case to the prosecutor office.
“Areki is currently being detained in the Papua Police Office, but his trial will be possibly conducted in Wamena. However, we are still waiting an update because most of witnesses live in Wamena,” she said.
A human rights activist in Papua, Pater John Djonga said there’s no reason to process this case to the court because Wanimbo is not guilty. He is only a victim. “I hope this case will over soon, and he could get his freedom because he is not guilty,” Djonga said to Juby by phone on Monday (24/11).
He also said he hoped the police and prosecutor could be wise because two French journalists who were arrested together with Wanimbo were already released. (Aprila Wayar/rom)
