Jayapura, 4/2 (Jubi) – To follow up the aspirations of the people from Jayawijaya requesting to the Papua Election Commission ( KPU Papua ) to review three names from five candidates, members of the Regional Election Commission in Jayawijaya regency who passed the selection. The Papua Legislative Council ( DPR Papua) will write a letter to the KPU Papua to continue the aspirations of the people from Jayawijaya.

The Chairman of DPR Papua who is also from Central Highland area, Deerd Tabuni hopes that the KPU Papua is able to look at this issue wisely in accordance with the aspirations of the people from 332 villages and 40 districts in Jayawijaya. Moreover, they have threatened to boycott the election and will occupy the office of KPU Papua.
“I hope that the aspirations will be followed up and not ignored. If people boycott the election, there will certainly hamper the implementation of both Legislative and presidential elections. We will write to the KPU Papua to take the people’s aspirations seriously. We must prevent in order to avoid the things that are not desirable.” said Deerd after meeting representatives of Council and the community of Jayawijaya on Tuesday (2/4).

According to him, the Papua Legislative Council ( DPR Papua) does not want to intervene  the authority of Papua Election Commission as an independent agency. As we want to avoid things.
“We do not intervene in the Commission or anyone else, but we just wanted to pass and continue the aspirations of the people because it is our duty.” he said.

First Vice Chairman of Jayawijaya Legislative Council, Agustina Walilo also hopes that the Election Commission of Papua willing to look at this issue because if there is a boycott, it will interfere the implementation of upcoming legislative and presidential elections.
“As the aspirations of the people yesterday, we want that the Chairman of the Papua Election Commission clearly to look at this issue. Because, if it happens, it will disrupt the election process. Especially if the people will blockage airports, logistics to other highland areas. Since, Jayawijaya is the only main entrance.” said Agustina Walilo. (Jubi / Arjuna/Tina)
