Jayapura, 23/4 (Jubi) – About a thousand personnel of Police – Army Joined Forces come down to secure the plenary meeting of the Provincial Election Commission of Papua and Papua Barat which would be carried simultaneously on Thursday (24/4).
The Papua Police Chief, the Inspector General Tito Karnavian acknowledged his personnel are ready joined the forces in order to secure the plenary meeting of the election commission in both provinces. He said 700 personnel were assigned for Papua while 300 personnel for Papua Barat.
“The plenary meeting of the Papua Election Commission will be held in Aston Hotel Jayapura, so we will adapt the situation of security. We have mapped the location. We are using the closed and opened security system and installing the X-ray security door as well. Of course the traffic would be also affected,” he said after leading an official preparation of plenary security at Papua Police Headquarter on Wednesday (23/4).
He further said the safety stage is carried out in accordance with the Security Operation Procedure.
“The personnel would be provided with stick and water canon while the rubber-bullet gun could be used. Those are non-lethal weapons” said the
He further said they would only use the bullets as the final effort.
“There is a special team who will taking over the critical situation, for example, the disruption of the armed group. The team should know when they have to act. We named it the ‘Action Platoon’,” he said.
The Chief said, the police would screen those who pass the hotel’s main door and meeting room’s door using the X-Ray.
“We’ll check among people who come. They could be detained if being caught bring a sharp weapon. Only the invited persons who allowed to attend the plenary meeting,” he said.
Meanwhile the Papua Police Spokesman, the Senior Commissioner Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono said the police would bring five or six of their twelve sniffer dogs to secure the plenary meeting.
“The Army would assign 150 personnel while Naval was ready with three platoons to secure the plenary meeting tomorrow. On behalf of Papua Police, we also apologize to the public because traffic congestion might be occurred along the protocol road surrounding the Aston Hotel for about a week. We also warned people who come to Aston Hotel for not bringing the sharp weapons because the police would seize it,” he said. (Jubi/Indrayadi TH/rom)
