Merauke, Jubi – An eight-year-old child named Yustus Piri was allegedly shot with an air rifle by his friend, RS (14),  when they went hunting birds in the forest on May 22, 2021.

The child was rushed to the Merauke Regional General Hospital for treatment but died a few days later on May 26.

Fisel said that Yustus was shot under the right ear. According to Fisel, before the children went into the forest, the perpetrator, RS, put the projectiles in the air gun and pumped the gun twice. RS then allegedly pulled the trigger that the bullet hit the victim under his right ear.

Merauke Police spokesperson Adj. Comr. Ariffin confirmed that Yustus Piri was shot with an air rifle. “Yes, the Merauke Police has received the report [about the shooting] and is investigating the case,” Ariffin said.
