

Papua Cultural Solidarity lit 30 candles (Jubi)
Jayapura , 27/4 ( Jubi ) – Papua Cultural Solidarity lit 30 candles to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of Papuan anthropologist Arnold Clemens AP.
“Thirty- candles represent the thirty years Arnold AP has gone yet his dedication to build Papuan culture still resonates in the hearts of Papuans ” one of the members of this solidarity, Samuel Womsiwor said during the event at Terrace of Lokal Budaya Museum of Cenderawasih University on Saturday ( 26/4 ).
He said many young men and women of Papua are not aware of Arnold Clemens’s contributions, so it is time for them to know better a figure who unified the Papuans in the past.
Various conflicts in Papua today is the impact of government indifference to the culture of Papua, he said.
Jason Ngelia,chairman of the Executive Board of the Student of Social and Political Science of Cenderawasih University ( BEM Fisip Uncen ) said such memorial events would continue in the coming years .
“We’ve been doing this event since a few years ago and has become our routine. We hope that we, the Papuan youth, will recognize and fight for our true identity,” Ngelia said.
Alfa Rohrohman told tabloidjubi.com that the event is fitting tribute to Arnold AP, who was killed by Special Forces (Kopassus ) soldiers in 1984 in a cruel and inhumane way.
“Arnold AP is the cultural symbol of Papuans who will always be remembered from generation to generation,” he said. (Jubi/Aprila/Tina)
