6,000 hectares of paddy fields belonging to farmers in Merauke are threatened with harvest failure – Jubi
Merauke, Jubi- About 3,000 hectares of rice fields might face crop failure because the prolonged dry season depleted water supplies, said the head of the Department of Agriculture and Foodstuffs of Merauke, Bambang Dwiatmoko.
“I have not received the latest data, but based on the data received a week ago reported that rice fields will face rice failure due to the dry season and possiblly, the amount of dry areas will increase, ” Bambang told Jubi in the Merauke Bappeda Office on last week.
But he said there are still some more rice fields can be harvested for reserve food and sale.
“And it has an impact on the farmers’ income,” he added.
There have been various ways to help the farmers in the villages like providing the engine sump aid and other agricultural equipment. However, the equipment is not able to function properly.
Merauke regent, Romanus Mbaraka some time ago said the government would continue to give attention. (Frans L Kobun)
