Twenty women from Jayapura Regency participated in the sewing course (Jubi)

Jayapura, Jubi – Twenty women from Jayapura Regency participated in the sewing course at the Vocational and Industrial Training Agency (BLKI) of Province Papua. This training was held from 11 to 25 November and organized by the Woman Empowerment and Child Protection and Family Planning (BP3A and  KB) of Jayapura Regency.

The Head of BP3A and KB of Jayapura Regency. Dra. Maria Bano said in the opening ceremony at BLKI Pasir II said through this training, the participants are expected to be independent in the future.
“The sewing training is an additional training which is aimed to advance their skills, since they have done several courses, namely weaving, batik and crafting,” said Maria Bano.

While the Head of BLKI Jayapura, Jhoni Naa expected the sewing course would be able to create jobs in order to eliminate the unemployment. “Skills must be improved in order to assist the government in jobs creation to anticipating the unemployment,” he said.

A participant, Yuliana Kowo told Jubi that the training is very useful for her because it could help to improve the household economic in the future. She added this training was indirectly strengthening the Papuan women in Jayapura Regency.
“The training was supporting us, the Papuan women. We never knew about the sewing thing in the past, but now we have this skill. It means we have developed Papua as a whole,” she said.

While the Organizer Martince Alfonsa Wersai admitted the twenty participants are women representatives from the development areas level 1 – 4 in Jayapura Regency, that are including Sentani, Sentani Timur, Sentani Barat, Depapre, Yokari and Namblong sub-districts.
“The activity is aimed to improve the women’s welfare. This is coming from the Special Autonomy budget,” she said and added that the training was budgeted in the Regional Budget 2014. (Roberth Wanggai/rom)
