
Prisoners escaped after breaking the roof of the second floor (Jubi/Aprila)
Sentani, Jubi – Nineteen inmates serving jail sentences for drug offences escaped from the Jayapura Narcotics Prison early Sunday (5/10).
Three of the escapees were identified as Gayas Sume, Joel Sakak and Erick Sanama from Papua New Guinea.
The head of prison’s security division, Hamkah Abdullah, said the prisoners escaped after breaking the roof of the second floor.
“There were five people on duty. Two officers each watched at the front and the back while the other was on the block. In the prison there are 3 blocks, ” he said.
The Jayapura prison chief, Nirhono Jadmokoadi said he would question the five prison guards and cooperate with the police in pursuing the escapees
“We will add more prison guards so that similar incidents will not happen again,” Jadmokoadi said (Angrias RF / Albert Yomo)
